Sammie McElwain, GIT - Staff Geologist I

I grew up in the Tacoma area of Washington State. I attended Highline College and took an entry-level geology course called Shaping the Earth, that piqued my interest early in college. Understanding the processes of how the features we see at the surface are created and shaped was, and still is, what interests me most. I continued my geology interest at Western Washington University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Geology.

Working in the geotechnical engineering industry allows me to understand why certain mitigation measures need to be put in place. I knew a 9 to 5 job sitting at a desk was not quite for me and with this job, it’s a good combination of both - completing explorations in the field, construction monitoring, completing lab work, and typing up reports.

In my free time, I enjoy time with my family and friends, traveling, and line dancing.
